Design/Build new elevator shaft at Exchange Place subway
station. Work included:
- Rock tunneling and removal of rock from 70' below grade
- Installation of 65 sets of rock bolts and steel cribbing and wedges
- New reinforced concrete roof arch and walls
- New elevator and architectual finishes
- Reconstruction of concrete train platforms for ADA
compliance at four
New Jersey PATH stations
- Construction was completed during
the hours of 9:00
pm - 5:00 am, nights and weekends
- Access was extremely limited
- Highly sensitive work due to a continuous energized
third rail
- Installed five other elevators:
(two at Exchange Place;
two others at Journal Square; one at Newark)
- 25 stairways were refurbished with epoxy cement including
replacement of all handrails
- Project completed on schedule
